Progress Specifications and Rules

Facials

  • Facials should be either 60 minutes (full facial) or 30 minutes (for an express facial) of HANDS ON time. This time does not include station set up or tear down.
  • Facials are to be performed on the face/neck/decollete area only. Body facials do not count (butt, Brazilian, etc.).
  • If you are doing more than one facial on your partner, it is suggested that you perform express facials with alternating options: exfoliation first, massage second, and then treatment masque.
  • ANY TIME your client is masking (treatment masque, LED mask, or enhanced exfoliation that requires the product to sit on the skin), you should be performing some form of touch therapy (hand/arm, scalp massage).
  • Every facial should include a skin analysis.

Acne Treatment

  • In order to receive credit for an acne facial, you must complete a 60-minute facial including products specifically for treating acne. This treatment should include a 10-minute extraction module where the skin is prepped with Multi Active Scaling gel and treated with post-extraction solution.
  • The facial should also include at least one modality that targets acne (ultrasonic, LED, High frequency) - no exceptions.

Back Facials

  • A back facial should be 60 minutes. Credit may not be earned for an “express back facial.”

Waxing

  • Every wax should include skin prep and post-wax products every single time.
  • Hard wax should only be used for underarms, bikini, Brazilian, and facial waxing when appropriate.
  • A leg wax or arm wax MUST be the WHOLE lower half or upper half front and back. A few patches on the legs or arms do not constitute a wax.
  • Underarm wax means BOTH underarms.
  • Brow wax should take no less than 10 minutes. Waxing just between the brows is NOT under any circumstances considered to be a sufficient brow wax.
  • Although sugar wax and hard wax are considered to be gentle and pose a much lower risk of lifting the skin, an individual should never receive more than one wax on the same area in one day, especially on the face. This poses a risk of damaging or lifting the skin.
  • A back wax must be more than 50% of the total surface area.
  • Toes and fingers do not count as their own wax. These are areas that can be included in the arm or leg wax.

Makeup

  • In order to receive credit for a makeup application, at LEAST 3 aspects must be completed: Eyes, Lips, Complexion, Brows, and EVERY beauty makeup should include mascara.
  • A tattoo cover-up must be checked by an instructor and the tattoo should be INVISIBLE.
  • A brow tint is considered a makeup, but the brows must ACTUALLY be tinted. You may not apply tint without developer, and you may not apply tint and immediately remove it just to say you did it. Must be checked by an instructor.
  • Brows may only be tinted once per day per student (but should really only be tinted once every 2-3 weeks depending on the hair growth of the individual).
  • Lash tints do not count as anything. It is a bonus to have learned lash tinting, and it is not required by the state.

Eyelash Application

  • A strip lash should be trimmed to fit the eye and have no visible gap between the natural lash line and the band of the strip. Both corners should be well adhered. Eyeliner should be applied to disguise the lash band. Mascara should be applied.
  • If doing multiple strip lash applications on the same partner, either apply a visibly different style of strip lash each time, or remove and apply new strip with educator present.
  • Lash applications should ALWAYS be checked by an educator.
  • Tabbing may be done on a mannequin; 2-3 rows of tabs should be applied to each eye.

Hand/Foot

  • Hand and foot treatments should take 30 minutes.
  • Both hands and feet should be done simultaneously.

Lying or exaggerating about progress completed is a serious offense. It is considered to be defrauding the state government in relation to a legal document and also puts your potential license and the license of your educators at risk. This offense is punishable by termination of enrollment at IWC.

If your educator cannot confirm the completion of any reported progress, we reserve the right to refuse signing off.
